The Bristol Cowl is an elegant crochet cowl pattern featuring a beautiful symmetrical cable design worked in a single flat panel. The cabled braids are created by alternating Front Post stitches in repeating rows, which are created by dropping down and working around the post of the row below. This is important in keeping the braid construction seamless.

The first time I saw crochet cables, I was smitten. I’ve always admired the look of knit, but I could never quite get the hang of it.
These cables combine everything I love about the look of contemporary knitwear and the simplicity of working with a hook, all while elevating the art of crochet.

This is an Advanced Beginner/ Intermediate crochet pattern.

The stitches themselves are not difficult, but there is a lot of working in front of and behind other stitches, so a strong understanding of stitch anatomy is encouraged.

Materials:

200g of DK Weight Yarn, Approximately 490-520 Yards
My sample used 200g (495 Yards) of Three Sisters Fiber Moxie DK in the solid Pineberry
5 mm Hook
Yarn Needle

This pattern is written in US crochet terminology.
Please don’t let Rows 4 & 6 discourage you from making this piece! This is a very complex pattern to read across, though it is much easier in practice. Once you have a few rows down, you may not even need to look at the pattern. The row instructions are broken up into sections to make the pattern more accessible for crocheters less experienced with cables.
