Broadleaf Mini is a brioche motif children’s sweater knit with fingering weight sock yarn. The textured colorwork makes a bold fabric while staying soft and comfortable for kids since no mohair is used.

The sweater features a boatneck, dropped sleeves, and an easy to wear shape. The front panel can even be seamed with the wrong side facing out for a different look.

Video tutorials are included to guide you through the brioche stitch and finishing techniques.

Design Details

Broadleaf Mini is knit flat in two pieces and seamed using mattress stitch at the shoulders and sides.

After seaming, stitches are picked up for the sleeves and worked in the round. The brioche motif is worked across the front panel while the rest of the sweater is worked in stockinette.

Construction Overview

The front and back panels are knit flat separately. The pieces are seamed at the shoulders and sides using mattress stitch.

Stitches are then picked up for the sleeves and worked in the round. The collar is finished after sleeve pickup.

The brioche motif highlights indie dyed sock yarn beautifully. A bright foreground color makes the motif stand out, while a second yarn is used as the background color for the brioche, sleeves, and collar.
