This pattern is for an Afghan square that will be part of the blanket Knitted Up Dulwich Road. Dulwich Road is in south London, and I live locally. The blanket will celebrate the sights and feel of Dulwich Road through the medium of yarn in 49 x 7-inch specially designed knitted squares.

Materials

  • Rowan Felted Tweed, shades Barn Red (196), Carbon (159), Rose Quartz (206) & Peach (212)
  • Rowan Cotton Glacé, shade Oyster (730)
  • 1 pair 2.75mm knitting needles

Tension 29 stitches & 32 rows = 10 cm

Finished size 18 x 18cm / 7 x 7 inches

The variegated bricks in this square are made using stranded colourwork in four shades of Rowan Felted Tweed. Two shades are used in each row of bricks. Carry Barn Red and Oyster up the side of the work. Cut off other shades of Felted Tweed at the end of a brick row if they are not used in the next one.

A slip stitch pattern forms the brick appearance.
