Brontoscorpio is the name of a fossil scorpion discovered in England. It lived in the Silurian period, about 400 million years ago. Since all they found was a bit of the pincer, which they extrapolated into a 36-inch scorpion, I figure my scorpion is as likely to look like the original as any.

This is a basic hat pattern, with a design in stranded knitting. It’s easy to knit, and quick. The border is a picot hem with a contrasting color right at the fold to make the edge of the hem look beaded.

Notes:

I used white yarn, two 50g skeins. I dyed one yellow and then overdyed with green to make a gold/green yarn. You can use any two colors that you want to use, or dye your own color as I did.

Intarsia would work as well as stranded knitting for this pattern. I like stranded knitting because it makes a thicker hat. The stranded color shows through like a shadow or ghost, which is an effect I like. If you want a less rustic, more polished look, you may want to use the intarsia technique.
