This hat is based on Chinese lattice designs. Although it looks complicated, it is actually easy to knit. Stranded knitting, only two colors, very few long floats.

You’ll need to know how to carry two yarns (I carry one in each hand) and how to trap long floats, although there are very few of them in this hat. Use any stretchy cast-on you prefer. I used the knitted cast-on.

Pick two colors that contrast well.

I knit rather loosely. If you knit more tightly, you may want to use a larger needle. The pattern has a 60-stitch repeat, so isn’t easy to adjust if you want to change the size. Instead, use smaller needles and finer yarn for a smaller hat, or larger needles and thicker yarn for a larger hat. The sample hat has a circumference of 22 inches and is very stretchy.
