My daughter loves minions. In fact, it was one of her first non-essential words. I’m not sure if it’s just because they are so doggone cute or if she has secret plans for world domination. Either way, she has two of them now - Bruce and Norm.

This pattern includes instructions for both minions and you can easily mix up the eyes, mouths, and hair to suit your own diabolical needs. There are written instructions as well as charts and picture tutorials. You will need at least one set of #6 (4.0mm) DPNs, and having 2 sets would be helpful. You will also need a set of #6 (4.0mm) 16 in (40cm) circular needles. Everything but the pocket on the overalls and the strap for the eye is knitted in the round. The top and straps of the overalls and the mouth are duplicate knit with a tapestry needle (a picture tutorial is included).

If you are only making one minion, you will need less than one skein of all the yarns - Knit Picks Dishie in Creme Brulee & Blue, and Loops & Threads Impeccable in White, Black, and True Grey (and possibly Chocolate if you want brown eyes/hair and Soft Rose if you want the “Whaaaat?” mouth). If you are making both minions, you will need 2 skeins of Creme Brulee and still less than 1 skein of the rest. You can use any worsted weight yarn, but the Dishie has a really nice feel if this is going to a kid and makes the duplicate knitting easier because it has great stitch definition. A 20 oz (560grams) bag of polyester fill is perfect for 2 minions.

All proceeds from The Slow Huggers and Bruce & Norm, the Despicable Minions from October 2014- December 2015 were donated to the Pediatric Cancer Care and Research Fund at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, OR. My niece underwent chemo there for Medulloblastoma and the things they do for these insanely brave kids is amazing!

While they cannot accept knitted toys (for infection control reasons) they can use the funds to provide new books, crafts, and toys for the 140,000 annual visits from kids with life-threatening illnesses. Check out their Wish List for other ways to help.
