Bubble Slippers
About the Pattern:
These slippers use a combination of knitting and crochet techniques. The crochet techniques used are single crochet, bobble stitch, and picking up stitches to join knit sections. The knitting techniques used are knit/purl/increase/decrease/twisted stitches, cables, picking up stitches, and creating stitches. The yarn used is 2 ply (approximately worsted weight) 100% Wool from Macausland’s Woollen Mills in Prince Edward Island, Canada, but any worsted weight yarn in any fibre will work, as long as the desired gauge can be achieved.
Size:
These slippers fit a US womens size 7-10 (Mens 5-8). The twisted ribbing that runs around the side and back of the foot is very stretchy so they will comfortably fit a variety of foot sizes. The fit of these will be a little looser for a foot on the smaller end of the size range, and a little snugger for a foot on the larger end.
Yarn:
The yarn used is 2 ply (approximately worsted weight), 100% Wool from MacAusland’s Woollen Mill in Prince Edward Island, Canada in Natural White. Approximately 4oz/200 yards/skein
2 skeins of the yarn is recommended
(JUST over one skein is needed, so approximately 250 yards of yarn is needed per pair of slippers)
Needle & Gauges:
5mm circular or double pointed needles, or whichever size needle is needed to achieve a gauge of:
10sts x 14 rows = 2.5 square inches (in stockinette stitch)
Also needed:
4mm circular or double pointed needles (or 1mm smaller than the needle you require to achieve the above gauge) for the twisted ribbing section
5mm crochet hook
Additional Tools:
6mm crochet hook (or any large hook to create the loose initial chain)
Darning needle
Cable needle
