This shawl was designed to show off the beauty of slow color-changing gradient yarn. I tried to keep the pattern as simple as possible this time; the graduated bubbles are worked with slipped stitches with some increases without any complicated techniques involved. The main challenge here is to pick the right colors. Avoid gradient yarn with fast color changes, as it might result in striped look. Another thing to consider is to pick the solid yarn that is in sharp contrast with all colors of the gradient yarn. While I do think that this shawl looks best with gradient-colored bubbles, some bright solid (or semi-solid) color is still a good option for those.

Materials. The shawl takes 800 m of fingering-weight yarn total (400m of each color). For the prototype pictured, I used 1 skein of each Malabrigo Metamorphosis (Starry Night) and Malabrigo sock (Natural). I planned to use no more than 1 skein of each, but I ran out of the gradient yarn in the middle of zigzag stripe at the edge, and had to use different yarn to finish it. So, make sure to have a few extra yards of matching color for that stripe.
Use cotton yarn for lighter, summer shawls. In that case you will need one 425m skein of gradient Soul Bio Baumwolle from Garnmanufactur, and 3x50g skeins of contrasting solids of the Soul yarn; all can be found here.
For the needles, you will need 4.5mm circulars with long wire.
Gauge: 22sts X 28rows = 10cm in garter.
Size: unblocked, this shawl was 150cm wide, with 50cm drop. After blocking, it stretched to 165cm wingspan, with 65cm drop.
