Budde is a nearly circular shawl knitted in five shades of natural wool. The main body of the shawl is garter stitch but narrow bands of purl garter stitch, feature eyelets, a bit of slip stitch and a picot edge add pretty details. The yarn is fingering weight, but Budde is knitted using larger than usual needles to create a light, airy fabric which grows quite quickly and can be worn in a variety of ways.
The design is based on a cross-section of a tree as seen through a magnifying lens, with rays, rings and little holes.
I was searching for a name for this design and after hearing Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde speak with such calm inner strength, I thought that this meditative large project with a light touch seemed a good fit.
The instructions are given for two sizes.
I hope that you enjoy being hugged by a tree.

You will need about 50g of each colour for the first size and a second ball for the second size. Of course you don’t have to restrict yourself to five colours. This project would make a great stashbuster.
