Looking for a simple pattern to show off a special skein of yarn? Or a quick knit for a gift? This is a bulky version of my Fringed Bandana Cowl and perfect for using a single skein.

A simple garter stitch triangle that is worked flat and seamed together into a cowl, with a drop-stitch fringe - no worrying about loose shawl ends slipping off your shoulder! The cowl starts on one end and increases to the middle point, then decreases down the other side. Joining is done with either the mattress stitch, or using a provisional cast on and kitchener stitch to join the sides. With this quick, easy pattern you’ll want to make a couple in different colors, and it’s a great way to use up scraps of bulky weight yarn (or two strands of dk/light worsted weight yarn held together).

Gauge is not very important in this pattern, although it does use almost a whole skein of 100g bulky weight yarn. If you have a scale you can stop increasing when half of the yarn remains, otherwise follow the pattern for when to begin decreases.

The gray sample is knit with Bernat Roving. This is a heavier bulky weight and I used the entire skein with just a little left at the end. The variegated sample is a dyed KnitPicks bare Wool of the Andes Bulky. I find KnitPicks Wool of the Andes to be a bit lighter weight so I get more yardage from them - I had about 20g leftover from this skein.
