This is a fun, relatively easy knitted hat, featuring alternating panels of tree motifs and textured moss stitch. It would be a good introduction to twisted stitches and 1/1 cable twists, especially without a cable needle. The hat has a folded ribbed brim and works up quickly in dk yarn on 4mm needles. The pattern is worked in the round with 5 pattern repeats, with the decreases coming together in a lovely mossy star at the crown.

Yarn:
~200 yards dk weight (pictured here in Estelle Superwash Merino DK in Merlot Q40309, 1 ¾ skeins used)

Needles:
US size 6 (4mm); however, I tend to knit tightly, this would also likely work just fine on US size 5 (3.75mm) needle

Gauge:
1 pattern repeat = 3” (7.6 cm) wide
25 st x 32 rows in 4x4” (10x10 cm) in stockinette

Measurements:
Hat measures 7.8” (20 cm) wide at brim, 8” (20.3 cm) tall with brim folded
Hat here is modeled on a 22” (56 cm) head, but will fit heads 21” to 24.5” (53 to 62 cm)
Written for an adult head with 5 repeats; easy to modify by decreasing number of repeats
