Caernarfon Cowl
This pattern was designed to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Wonderwool Wales in April 2026 and is based on our Caernarfon Cushion pattern. For the week before the show and two weeks after, 10% of any sales of this pattern will be donated to the show’s names charities.
Welsh blankets are a tangible expression of the Welsh concept of Hiraeth, evoking as they do, a sense of place, a longing for home and nostalgia for a way of life long gone For us, Wonderwool shares this sense of Hiraeth as a comforting home for like-minded crafters so we decided that the Caernarfon Cowl would be an ideal knitted anniversary project.
The yarn used for the original Cowl uses a wonderful Welsh from Cambrian yarns in colours redolent of Welsh blankets and Welsh landscape.
We used two balls of Gwymon (green) and one ball of Shale (dark grey). The sample knit didn’t go far into the second ball of green, but eagle-eyed knitters will notice that there are a couple of rows missing from the top repeat so that second ball will definitely be needed if the chart is followed correctly!
The pattern is charted with the text only giving basic details about yarn, techniques used and needle sizes.
