This long cowl starts with a provisional cast-on, and the main body of the cowl is worked in one long strip. Additional stitches are then cast on for the top edge of the cable panel, the provisional cast on is “unzipped”, and the cable panel is worked back & forth to join the live stitches from the two ends of the body together.
This pattern is both written and charted, and uses two skeins of a sportweight yarn with 380 yards per 100 grams; it’s recommended that you use a sturdy, woolly yarn so that the cowl will hold its shape.
The sample was knitted in Old Maiden Aunt Yarns Corriedale sportweight in “moody” and used approximately 1.75 skeins.
Please note that the yarn used in the original pattern has now been discontinued and replaced with a Corriedale sportweight spun by a different mill; the new base is semi-worsted rather than woollen spun so is slightly different in texture but will still work to the correct pattern gauge and can be used in its place with no issues.
