✨ Welcome to my Cascade Illusions Granny Square pattern!

The Cascade Illusions Square is one of three designs I created for a Learn-a-Long event with Crochet Australia, where we explored fun colour techniques.

This square gives the effect of an optical illusion, with stitches cascading beautifully down the fabric. By working into previous rows, you create both a flowing fall of colour and a rich textural finish—making this design perfect for so many projects.

With its simple stitch repeat, you can:
Expand the square into a scarf, shawl, bag, or blanket worked in one piece.
Create multiple squares and join them with a contrasting colour to really make them pop.

The possibilities are endless! I used mine to make cheerful cushion covers for our caravan lounge chairs—they add such a vibrant pop of colour and texture.

 You’ll need:

· 3.5mm Hook, Yarn needle, Scissors, Pins, Stitch markers, Blocking equipment.

Yarn per square: 8ply yarn - I’ve used Fiddlesticks Wren 8ply Cotton 50gms / 125m

Colour 1 = C1 – Butter W004 x 40gms,

Colour 2 = C2 – White W002 x 13gms

Colour 3 = C3 – Aqua W047 x 15gms,

Colour 4 = C4 – Turquoise W045 x 15gms

For my cushions: I used the left over yarns of C2, C3 and C4 to create a border to achieve the size I needed for my cushions.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Finished Size: 32cm x 32cm square when blocked
