Casey is a universal pattern for unisex socks. Rather than being designed around a specific size or yarn weight, the pattern is based on the number of stitches cast on. This means you can create a variety of different versions simply by choosing your preferred yarn weight and cast-on stitch count.

The pattern includes 11 different versions, with cast-on stitch counts ranging from 40 to 81 stitches. A guide is included to help you determine how many stitches to cast on based on the size you want to knit and your chosen yarn weight (included in the pictures here as well).

When purchasing this pattern, you will receive a package of files, including:

  • A file containing general information (mandatory reading before you begin!).
  • 11 separate pattern files, one for each cast-on stitch count, making it easier to follow the instructions and print only the version you need.
  • A complete file containing the entire pattern in one document.
  • A link to an Excel tool will be included, which will calculate for you, how long to knit your leg or foot part before heel gusset or toe.

A fair warning: with so many sizes and variations, the complete pattern is almost 60 pages long!

The pattern is perfect for creating matching family looks, as it can be used to knit socks ranging from EU size 24 (US 8C) to EU size 46 (US men’s 12 / US women’s 13.5), and even larger.

Whether you’re knitting for yourself, your partner, or the whole family, this pattern offers a simple and versatile way to create socks that fit everyone.

Haven’t knitted socks before? If you are familiar with knitting in the round and basic cables, you can absolutely give these socks a try! There is no need to pick up stitches or use special short-row techniques. Majority of testers evaluated that this pattern would be suitable for confident beginners.

What’s more, a handy tool is included which will calculate for you, how long to knit before starting the heel or toe. No more guessing!

To knit your own pair of Casey socks, you will need:

  • Your preferred sock yarn.
  • Knitting needles (DPNs or circular needles).
  • A darning needle.
  • 2–3 stitch markers.
  • A cable needle (optional). A video tutorial is included, showing you how to knit cables without a cable needle.

The recommended needle size depends on your chosen yarn weight:

  • Fingering weight: 2.25 mm / US 1.
  • Sport weight: 2.75 mm / US 2.
  • DK weight: 3.25 mm / US 3.

As always, these are general recommendations, and you may need to adjust your needle size by approximately ±0.25 mm / US ±0.5 depending on your personal knitting tension.

The pattern includes complete written instructions for knitting the socks from start to finish. Charts are also provided as a complementary reference for the stitch pattern, toe, and heel gusset.

The name Casey was chosen deliberately, as it is a gender-neutral - just like these socks, which are designed to fit everyone beautifully. And there is one more little detail behind the name: Casey starts with the third letter of the alphabet, because this is the third pattern I have published.
