CASTLE HILL

There aren’t a lot of Sanquhar sweaters out there and I wish there were more! With this desire, I made a Sanquhar inspired (and chess board inspired) raglan. I designed this as a tunic, but since it’s top down, you can easily stop at any length that suits you.

There is 1 pattern file and 9 chart files. Each size has its own chart file, so be sure to download the chart file corresponding to the size that you are making.

Sizes

(1,2,3)(4,5,6)(7,8,9) with finished sweater bust circumferences:

(89.5,98.5,107.5)(117.5,125,137)(144.5,156.5,166.5)cm /
(35.25,38.75,42.25)(46.25,49.25,54)(57,61.5,65.5)“

Castle Hill is intended to be worn with about 10 to 15cm / 4 to 6” of positive ease at bust and/or hem. A list of measurements and schematic is provided on page 2.

Yarn

Knit Picks Palette (100% Peruvian Highland wool; 211 meters / 231 yards per 50 grams) in 1 main color (MC), and 1 contrast color (CC), listed below with approximate meterage and yardage. If using the same sample yarn, the number of balls of each color is also given in brackets.

MC Asphalt Heather (Dark Gray; (5,6,6)(7,7,8)(9,9,10) balls):

(605,685,760)(835,895,1000)(1065,1170,1260) yards

Gauge

To find your needle size, you need to swatch.

Stranded Colorwork: 27 sts / 29 rnds to 10cm / 4” using size B needles

Needles & Notions

The gauges were achieved with the following needle sizes. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

Size A: 2.75mm (US 2) circular needles of varying lengths for the 1x1 ribbing on neckband, cuffs & hem

Size B: 3.75mm (US 5) circular needles of varying lengths for the stranded colorwork

You will also need: spare interchangeable cables, spare needles or scrap yarn for holding stitches; stitch markers.
