Introducing the Castlewellan Shawl, the eighth shawl in the Petite Possibilities Collection.
The shawl is knitted sideways from tip to tip and features a captivating pattern that blends sophistication with visual appeal.
Its easy-to-memorize pattern strikes a delightful balance between engagement and relaxation, enabling you to knit confidently and effortlessly without constantly referring to the instructions.
You can choose between two shapes, each offering different design possibilities.
Option One is a shallow, crescent-shaped shawl. Increase to your desired width, maintain that width for the middle section, and then decrease on the second side to the opposite tip.
Option Two is a symmetric triangle shape. The shawl increases to the midway point and then decreases to the opposite tip.
Castlewellan is easily adapted to your preferred size and the amount of yarn you have available. You can customize each section by adding or reducing pattern repeats, allowing for a truly personalized creation. Detailed instructions, photos, and size options can be found in “Castlewellan Possibilities.”
Castlewellan is designed for fingering-weight yarn, but also looks lovely in Sport or DK-weight yarns. It offers remarkable versatility, inviting you to explore a variety of fibres and yarn weights.
The instructions include stitch counts for each row, presented in a clear, row-by-row format.
Sections 2, 3 and 4 are charted. Please refer to the written instructions for the Set-up and Final Section.
A step-by-step photo tutorial illustrates the unique stitch used in Castlewellan. While this may be a new pattern for you, mastering this distinctive stitch is easy and rewarding.
TIPS AND TRICKS is a 7-page PDF that provides detailed information about all the key aspects of the shawl. As an experienced knitting instructor, I enjoy sharing helpful tips and advice to enhance your knitting journey.

Castlewellan is a small town in County Down, in the southeast of Northern Ireland, close to the Irish Sea and the Mourne Mountains. The town beautifully combines historical significance with natural charm. Unique in Northern Ireland are its chestnut tree-lined squares, found both in the old and new towns, and its notably wide main street.
