JACKET

A classic shawl-collared jacket for smart casual wear in cool weather, cosy but breathable, with a medium drape. The front edges can be adjusted either to meet at the centre or to overlap for extra warmth. Tailored for comfort with a fitted collar, sloping shoulders, tapered raglan sleeves, and either a straight body profile or an optional method to shape the waist for both women and men. The jacket is worked seamlessly from the top downwards in a neat honeycomb mesh that holds its shape well. Construction begins with minimal short-row shaping in the collar, then further components are simply worked onto each other. For more adventurous makers, included are optional lace motifs that meander across the garment.

CONTENTS

  • Simple guide for choosing your garment size based on your back neck measurement (to suit your own gauge).

  • Comprehensive section on pattern alteration.

  • Row-by-row written instructions.

  • Detailed stitching charts.

  • Tutorial for the lace technique.

  • Fully charted lace design.

Two versions

Two versions are provided with different honeycomb stitches: CAVALIER has a firmer drape, and CORSEO has a softer drape. Both include the optional charted lace design (see the schematic shown here). Photos show a demonstration of the freeform lace technique. #sizeinclusive

Working tip

To mark your place in a complex lace design as you are working it, use a ruler that moves up the page as you work each row. When working from a printout, this can be a physical ruler. When working from a digital screen, it can be a line that is drawn with the Comment feature in the Adobe PDF reader. The line is editable, i.e. you can first draw a very short straight line, then stretch it horizontally to cover the full width of the page, then move it upwards as your work progresses up the page.

Projects

For full disclosure, please note that many of the projects are my own. This reflects my extensive work on improving the pattern. My ratings show my own satisfaction with it.
