Sometimes life hits you with unexpected challenges. For me in 2018, it was a broken ankle. I had to learn to be still, and to accept help. But through the darkness came the opportunity to fully engage in my craft. Although I was physically immobile, my design aspirations took great strides. These socks, inspired by my surgical scars, mark the undertaking of a whole new journey, and the celebration of getting up when life knocks you down.

There are 3 sizes included in the pattern.
S (M, L)
6.75 (7.75, 8.75)” / 17 (19.5, 22) cm foot circumference
9 (9.75, 10.5)” / 23 (25, 26.5) cm foot length
6 (7, 8)” / 15 (18, 20.5) cm sock height

1 (2, 2) 50g skeins of fingering weight yarn

Foot length and sock height are adjustable by changing the number of pattern repeats.

Please be advised that wool requirements and finished size measurements are approximate. Actual values may vary based on garment size, yarn, needle size, and gauge.

Sample:

This pattern requires knowledge of:

  • Reading patterns with multiple size options
  • Increasing and decreasing
  • Knitting in the round
  • Judy’s Magic Cast On (external link provided)
  • Simple Stretchy Bind Off (external link provided)

Tip from knitter @orangejeanius:

  • To make bobbles “pop” a little more, wrap it (like w+t) before knitting the next stitch, and knit the stitch above the bobble through the back loop to tighten the stitches around the bobble.
