This is a pattern for a Celtic Interlace Cushion. This is a very old stitch pattern, which dates back at least 1300 years.

You can make both sides of the cushion in the Interlace stitch. However, the pattern includes a different stitch design for the reverse. If you make both sides in Interlace stitch you may need extra yarn.

Made to the guage specified it is 18” square, but can be made to any size you wish - change the hook or yarn weight until you are happy with the result.

You need any DK or Aran weight yarn, together with the appropriate hook size for that yarn. Aran yarn requires a 6mm hook. Do not use too small a hook since this pattern needs to be worked quite loosely. It naturally draws in as you work it.

You will need 300gm Aran weight yarn and 4 buttons. If you wish to make an envelope back you need an extra 50 gm yarn but no buttons.
