ceph - a - lo - pod: (n) an active predatory mollusk of the large class Cephalopoda, such as an octopus or a squid.

This is a hat designed for my wonderful partner, who is celebrating a significant birthday very soon. I designed this hat based on his love of the ocean and cephalopods, specifically squid. I chose these two yarns because they looked very nice together. Generally I choose colors that have a lot of contrast, but the lack of contrast here made things interesting. I wanted the squid to blend into the ocean a bit, as they tend to do in real life.

This hat is on the larger side because he has a big head, but several things can be done to make it larger or smaller. The plain dark blue rows towards the top are the best place to lengthen the hat. I did 5 plain rows, you can shorten that down to 1 if your head is on the smaller side and you want a tighter fit. If your head is large and you want a slouchy beanie, you can easily add more of the plain dark blue rows and more of the patterned rows that immediately follow.

I hope you enjoy the pattern! I’m new to pattern making, so don’t hesitate to ask me any questions if you have them!
