The Chain Edge Vest is a drop-shoulder, open-front vest worked from the top down.
It features a simple, versatile shape that works well on its own or layered, highlighted by chain‑stitch edging that traces the outline of the garment.
To begin, the back shoulders are shaped with short rows and then worked back and forth to the underarms. Stitches for each front are picked up along the back shoulder edges and worked back and forth with the neckline shaping. The fronts are then joined to the back at the underarms. After the underarm gussets at both sides are shaped, the body is worked flat to the hem ribbing.
Ribbed armhole bands, neckband, and front bands are worked from picked-up stitches. Finally, the neckband, front bands, and hem are bound off together to create a seamless, continuous chain edge.
Because the vest is worked from the top down, the body length can easily be adjusted by trying it on. Please refer to the YARN section for estimated yarn requirements per 2.5 cm / 1” of length added or removed.

These measurements can be achieved only with the correct gauge. Please select the size that gives you the desired ease based on the finished measurements.
The model is 1 m 62 / 5’ 4” tall and is wearing size 2, with approx. 15 cm / 6” of ease in the bust.

21 sts and 29 rows = 10 cm / 4” in St st with 4 mm / US 6 needle, after blocking.

Body length adjustment: Approx. 30 (30, 35, 35) 40, 40, 45 (45, 50, 50) m / 31 (33, 34, 36) 39, 42, 44 (47, 50, 52) yds per 2.5 cm / 1” of length added or removed.
The sample is Size 2 and was knitted with 5 skeins of Sandnes Garn “Line” (53% Cotton, 33% Rayon, 14% Linen; 50 g = approx. 110 m / 120 yds) in 1015 White.

NEEDLES
4 mm / US 6 and 3.5 mm / US 4 circular needles, 80 cm / 32” or longer.
3.5 mm / US 4 circular needles, 100 cm / 40” or longer.
One 3.5 mm / US 4 double-pointed needle for Bind-Off.
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain gauge.

OTHER MATERIALS
Buttons (6 × 18 mm / ¾” buttons used in the sample), sewing thread and needle for attaching buttons, tapestry needle, stitch markers, removable markers, waste yarn.

チェーン・エッジ・ベストは、トップ・ダウンで編むドロップショルダーのオープンベストです。一枚でも重ね着でも使いやすいベーシックな形に、縁をぐるりと囲むチェーン・ステッチをアクセントに加えました。
編み方は、まず後ろ肩から編み始め、引き返し編みで肩の形を作り、脇下まで編み進めます。左右の身頃は後ろ肩からそれぞれ目を拾い、衿ぐりを作った後、脇下で前後身頃をつなげます。両脇にマチを作った後、裾のリブまで往復編みで編みます。アームホール、衿、前立てのリブは、拾い目をして編みます。最後に衿、前立て、裾を一緒に伏せ止めしてチェーンの縁を作ります。
トップ・ダウンで上から下へ編んでいくため、試着しながらお好みの着丈・袖丈に調整できます。身頃や袖を調整する場合は、糸欄の「身頃丈の調整」をご確認いただき、2.5cmごとに必要な糸量の目安をお確かめください。
