The Balloon Vest is an oversized vest worked from the top down. With its thoughtful construction and details, including a separate back yoke panel, different armhole shaping on the front and back to create a relaxed yet refined silhouette, armhole ribbing variable in width, and a loose high neck, it is an engaging project to knit from start to finish.
The back yoke is worked first using short rows. Stitches are then picked up along the back yoke seam to work the back flat down to the underarms. The front is worked continuously from the held stitches of the back yoke. The pieces are joined at the underarms and worked in the round, with shaping continuing toward the hem. The armhole and neck ribbings are worked separately from picked up stitches, and short rows are used to shape the armhole ribbing.
Because the vest is worked from the top down, the body length can easily be adjustable by trying it on as you knit. See the YARN section for estimated yarn requirements per 2.5 cm / 1” of length added or removed.

These measurements can be achieved only with the correct gauge. Please select the size that gives you the desired ease based on the finished measurements.
Model is 162 cm / 5’4” tall, wearing Size 2 (approx. 37.5 cm / 14¾” ease at bust and 11 cm / 4¼” ease at hem, based on bust measurement). Due to the tapered balloon silhouette, choose a size based on the finished Hem circumference to ensure your bust passes through.

GAUGE
16 sts and 22 rows = 10 cm / 4” in St st with 5.5 mm
(US 9) needle, after blocking.

Aran weight yarn
520 (550, 570, 610) 670, 690, 730 (770, 810, 840) m / 569 (602, 624, 668) 733, 755, 799 (843, 886, 919) yds
Body length adjustment: Approx. 24 (25, 26, 27) 30, 31, 32 (34, 36, 38) m / 26 (27, 28, 30) 32, 34, 35 (37, 40, 41) yds per 2.5 cm / 1” of length added or removed.
The sample is Size 2 and was knitted with 3 skeins of Rosa Pomar “Matiz” (100% Wool; 100 g = approx. 200 m / 219 yds) in D (Brown).

NEEDLES
5.5 mm (US 9) circular needles, 80 or 100 cm/32 or 40” or longer for body.
5 mm (US 8) needles suitable for working small circumferences in the round for armhole/neck ribbing.
4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles, 80 or 100 cm/32 or 40” or longer for hem ribbing.
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain gauge.

OTHER MATERIALS
Tapestry needle, stitch markers, removable markers, waste yarn.

Balloon Vestは、トップダウンで編むオーバーサイズのベストです。後ろ身頃の切り替えで作るバルーン・シルエット、前後身頃で異なる幅、高さを変化させたアームホールのリブ、ゆったりとしたハイネックなど、構造とディテールを楽しみながら編める一枚です。
まず後ろ身頃のヨークを引き返し編みで作り、そこから後ろ身頃の目を拾って脇下まで往復編みで編みます。前身頃は、後ろ身頃のヨークの休み目から続けて編み、脇下で前後身頃をつないで裾まで輪編みで編み進めます。アームホールとネックのリブは目を拾って編み、アームホールのリブは引き返し編みでカーブを作ります。
トップダウンで編むため、編みながら試着して身頃の丈を調整することが可能です。丈を2.5 cm長く、または短くする場合に必要な糸量の目安は、「糸」のセクションを参照してください。
