The stitch pattern for the socks came about as I was playing around with knit and purl combinations. I thought it looked interesting for a pair of socks. My partner came up with the name, when I showed him the pattern. He said it reminded him of a chameleon’s skin and colour. Since they are some of my favourite animals, I decided it was a good name for my sock design.

Sizes:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5 / Foot circumference 17.5 (18.75, 20, 21.25, 22.5) cm / 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9)”
Recommended ease: 0 – 2.5 cm / 0 – 1” of negative ease.

Notions needed:
5 stitch markers, darning needle, scissors
Optional: Scrap yarn

The socks are knitted toe up, with a heel flap and gusset. These are integrated in the design and there’s no need to pick up stitches. The heel used is knitted using German Short Rows, and the heel flap uses the eye of partridge pattern. This can easily be swapped for a different heel flap pattern. The pattern has links to tutorials for German Short Rows, Judy’s Magic Cast On and Jeny’s Stretchy Bind-off.

Yarn ideas: light fingering or fingering sock yarn.
