Every fall season I love looking at all the fallen leaves on the ground. I just love their colours and shapes. These leaves are the inspiration for the Herfst Hat (Herfst means Fall/Autumn in Dutch).

Materials needed:

  • up to 6 stitch markers (including a distinctive one to mark the beginning of round)
  • Darning needle
  • Scissors
  • Optional: pompom maker or a readymade pompom

Sizes:

  • 1 (child, fits 30 to 48 cm/12 to 19”)
  • 2 (teen/adult small, fits 37 to 52 cm/14.5 to 20.5”)
  • 3 (adult average, fits 44 to 56 cm/17.25 to 22”)
  • 4 (adult large, fits 52 to 61 cm/20.5 to 24”)

Depending on the size you want to knit you’ll need about 100 to 200m/109 to 218 yd for the main colour and 25 to 100m/17 to 109 yd of contrast colour yarn, both in DK weight yarn. You’ll need a little extra for a pompom (optional).
