The Checkered Market Bag is knit in 5 individual panels (not including the 2 bag straps). 4 of the panels (front, back & sides) are knit using intarsia to make the checkered pattern, and 1 panel (bottom) is knit in stockinette.

To assemble, each panel is sewn together by hand before attaching the bag straps, which are also sewn on by hand. This bag is made using a chunky velour yarn that knits up quick, making it a perfect weekend project!

Included in the pattern are instructions on how to apply a liner and interfacing to the bag as an optional step if desired, but I do recommend these steps as I find it helps with the structure and utility of the bag. Happy knitting!

Yarn: 5 skeins of Juicy Couture Super Bulky Polyester Luxe Velour XL Yarn (10.5oz/300g each skein) or 52.5oz/1500g of any chunky velour yarn

  • 3 skeins (900g) in Main Color (MC) & 2 skeins (600g) in Contrast Color (CC)

Gauge: 7sts x 10r = 4” x 4” (10cm x 10cm)

Needles: US 13 (9.0mm) circular needles, 18” - 22” cord (40cm - 60cm)

Optional Materials

Liner: 1yrd/1m of preferred fabric (I used Silky Satin Fabric by Casa Collection from JoAnn Fabrics)
Interfacing: Fusible Midweight Interfacing (I used Pellon Fusible Midweight Interfacing)
