I wanted to create a blanket in the spirit of waiting for fall to arrive (even though we’ve got a couple months). This cherry pie blanket is super cuddly and cozy and I can’t wait to wrap up in it to drink a cocoa and watch the leaves change. The blanket is more like a sack that you slip into between the cherry filling and the bottom crust. It is sewn completely along one side of the pie slice and about halfway up on the other. A lattice crust is made and sewn onto the filling separately, but this can be totally optional! I will include approximate directions for making a baby size as well as an XL size after each part of the pattern. The given pattern is pretty roomy and accommodates children as well as adults (see the last page of this PDF for more photos). The customization options are pretty endless; leave off the cherry bobbles and lattice crust, and make the filling in a burnt orange and you’ve got a pumpkin pie! The simple blanket works up quickly with worsted weight yarn and a 9mm crochet hook. I would rate this pattern as a beginner/intermediate one; if you have any problems with the 5dc bobble during the cherry filling part, please feel free to look up “5dc bobble” on YouTube. For the given pattern i used 7 skeins of Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn in the colors ‘Light Taupe’ and ‘Cranberry’ (3.5 skeins of each) and a size N (9mm) crochet hook. ANY worsted weight yarn will suffice. Have fun creating your very own cherry pie blanket!
