If you love to take your knitting with you where you go, like me, - this pattern is exactly what you need! Knitting pieces is so convenient!
I used two colours of farmers traditional Aran wool, which I discovered in a farmers’ market. I also suggest that you can pick up a single or several different colours of wool, so you do not get bored knitting a lot of squares that are the same.
Once you finished all squares, it is time to start crocheting them together. The crocheting provides a border effect and finishes the Afghan nicely. Might it be a time for stash busting! Use any oddments you have. Any colour, or different colour for each square looks amazing. Or might two strands of each or different colours? You will get very chunky snuggle! It’s up to you!
You have to know how to work cables and simple stitches as knit, purl, make one and knit two stitches together, also you have to know some basic crochet stitches for joining all squares in one piece. You can knit Afghan small, for your baby cot, or as big as you wish.
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate.
MATERIALS REQUIRED: I used farmers wool for my sample.
• AFGHAN: 450g Aran (heavy worsted) white off shade and 450g Aran (heavy worsted) black shade.
• LARGE CUSHION COVER: 300g using Aran (heavy worsted) white off shade and 150g using Aran (heavy worsted) black shade.
• SMALL CUSHION COVER: 60g using Aran (heavy worsted) white off shade and 150 g using Aran (heavy worsted) black shade.
NB If you substitute another yarn, please check gauge (tension) and yardage and adjust accordingly.
• 2 Straight needles - 10mm (US 15).
• 1 Crochet hook - 5mm (US H-8).
• 1 Cable needle.
• 1 Tapestry needle.
MEASUREMENTS AFTER BLOCKING:
1 Square: (24 x 24) cm, (9 1⁄2 x 9 1⁄2) ins.
Afghan: (144 x 120) cm, (57ins x 47 1⁄2) ins.
Large Cushion cover: (72 x 72) cm, (28 1⁄2 x 28 1⁄2) ins. Small Cushion cover: (48 x 48) cm, (19 x 19) ins.
