This would work with about 200 yards of most sock yarns, but the Smooshy with Cashmere makes for a luxurious, extra soft hat. The hat is started at the ribbed band and worked to the crown on circular and then double pointed needles.

You will need to know how to cast on (I recommend tubular or long tail), how to do a “make one” increase, both leaning left and right, and also the double decrease “sl2tog-k1-psso”. And you will work some single decreases “ssk”.

And a nice big plate about 11” in diameter is handy for the final blocking.

Sample is done with Smooshy With Cashmere in Chocolate Night.
