You should know the basic stitches:
chain slip stitch,half double crochet, single crochet stitch (double crochet for UK), treble crochet (2 yarns over the hook) (double treble crochet for UK).

For Christmas pants I used Baby cotton YarnArt yarn. Fingering (14 wpi), 180 yards (165 meters), 50% Cotton, 50% Acrylic. Crochet hook sizes 3mm and 3.5mm.
Blue color- №459, Red-№427, White-№400.

You can use any cotton / bamboo baby yarn available in your country. Weight Sport (12wpi), Fingering (14wpi).

Yardage (pants): size 56 (n/b) = 230-250m (250-280yds),

Size 62 (3m) = 270-300m (300-330yds),

size 68 (6m) = 330-370m (360-400yds),

Size 74 (9m) = 400-430m (440-470yds),

size 80 (12m) = 450-500m (490-550yds),

Size 86 (1 ½ year) =500-550m (550-600yds),

size 92 (2) = 550-600m (600-650yds).
