These adorable little owls are a real hoot! (Sorry, couldn’t resist.) I’ve called them Christmas Tree Owls, and given them festive accessories, because they make a great tree decoration, but you can also make them as cute little gifts, Christmassy or not.

They are knit in the round with fingering weight yarn on a 2.25mm circular needle using the magic loop method. They start with a closed cast-on (Judy’s Magic Cast On) and are grafted together at the top once you have sewn on the eyes and beak and stuffed the owl. The beak, wings, feet and the double pom hat are knit flat, whereas the beanie and long-tailed hat are knit in the round.

They only use a small amount of yarn, so they’re a great stash buster. You’ll need approximately 8g for the owl and 4-5g for the hat.
