Chuck is a convertible hand warmer/mug cozy! Fall is my favorite time of year; the changing temperatures lead to leaves changing colors and pumpkins appearing all around. Warm drinks are more desired around this time of year, and adding a few accessories into my wardrobe seems to be the trend yearly. With that, I thought of creating something that could have double use!

Chuck is inspired by the convenience of wearing a set of mitts, but also having a reusable mug cozy to use instead of wasting all those cardboard slip ons. When I was designing Chuck, I couldn’t help but to think of the infamous Pumpkin Spice Latte that seems to be the norm these days, but also of Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin. When Tell Tale Yarn Co created her limited edition Toasted Pumpkin colorway, I knew it was the perfect match!! (Please note that this yarn is discontinued.)

Chuck is a very quick knit and would knit up very quickly for holiday gifting!

The two sizes are created by changing the yarn weight. Both weights use the exact same pattern directions. These mitts were done with a slightly tighter gauge than typical with the DK using a US 4, and the worsted weight using a US 6.

A note about sizing: I recommend thinking what purpose the intended user will want this mitt/cozy more for when choosing sizes. A mug is much wider in circumference than the average hand, so with a lot of usage, the mitts will likely stretch out. S/M will be better for more mitt usage, whereas the M/L will be better for mug cozy usage, however, both sizes will work for both usages!

Due to the potential stretching, if not using the recommended yarns, I would highly suggest yarn with wool content, as wool typically will shrink back, and superwash. You could then wash and dry the mitts to shrink them back to size without worry of felting. :o)
