Cilla is the older sister of my Quince pattern Hypatia, knit in DK yarn held doubled, and one piece from side to side, with a round yoke shaped entirely with short rows. The pattern employs the most convenient and common type of short row, in Stockinette stitch and always worked on the right side.
Knit in one piece, the only seam is at the sleeve and underarm.

This pattern is appropriate for the knitter who has followed patterns before, and wants to experiment with an uncommon construction. Notes and links are provided for all techniques used.

Sizes are actual finished bust measurements. Choose the next size up from your bust measurement, check that the upper arm circumference is larger than your body measurement. If it’s not, go up one more size for a better fit.

Yarn:
Holding yarn doubled (rather than working with a single, thicker yarn) is important to the fabric of this sweater. The two yarn strands held together make a wider, flatter stitch than a single yarn would make.
If substituting to work in a single yarn, choose a worsted weight or thicker yarn, preferably woolen spun. You will need about half the yardage listed.

GAUGE
14 sts and 22 rows = 4” / 10 cm in Stockinette on larger needles, with yarn held doubled.

Gauge notes:

1. This pattern is knit sideways, so achieving accurate row gauge is essential to getting proper finished measurements. Make a good-sized swatch, block just as you intend to wash your sweater, and leave it alone until completely cool or dry. To be really sure your row gauge won’t change when wearing the sweater, hang your dry, blocked swatch sideways for a day or so, then take down to measure gauge.
2. Please note your gauge both before and after blocking. If your row gauge is different before blocking, the measurements given in the pattern will not be accurate until you block your sweater. Consider steam or wet blocking as you go to confirm the lengths are working as you would like them.

US size 9 5.5mm a pair of straights or circulars (plus a needle 1-2 sizes larger than gauge needle for binding off)
US size 8 5mm 32” 60-80 cm circulars (to accommodate the hem edge finishing)
