This hat is a companion to the Cinnamony Mitts

I designed as a challenge to use candy as a theme. I love cinnamon candy of all kinds – it’s hot and spicy and delicious – and so is the hat. It starts with a cabled band that is grafted together in pattern. Stitches are picked up along the edge and then the main body of the hat is knit – with little knot stitches reminiscent of cinnamon Red Hots™. I used the wonderfully soft Malabrigo Silky Merino in the perfect red, Ravelry Red. Choose your favorite DK yarn in a semi-solid or solid color for best results.

Instructions for the cabled band are charted and written line by line. Also, instructions for how to cable with or without a cable needle are included.

One skein of Silky Merino is sufficient for the XS and S sizes but for medium or large, it’s best to have a second skein. One tester squeaked by with one skein knitting the medium hat.

A note on the Kitchener stitch in pattern - very detailed instructions are given. It’s one of those things that you just need to trust the process and work it exactly as written. If so, you will have a cabled band with a nearly invisible seam!
