A classic, top-down raglan with a beautiful airy drape and clean lines. Optional stripes, folded or regular neckband, and a relaxed DK gauge for a soft, wearable finish.

Design Features

  • Top-down, seamless raglan construction
  • Crew neckline shaped flat, then joined in the round
  • Optional folded collar or regular 1×1 rib neckband
  • Straight body with simple 1×1 rib hem and cuffs
  • Optional two-colour stripe sequence on body and sleeves

Construction & Techniques

  • Knit flat to shape the neckline, then in the round for yoke, body, and sleeves
  • Raglan increases are made with KFB/PFB
  • Sleeves picked up from holders and knit in the round with paired decreases
  • Underarm stitches cast on to bridge the divide (knitted or cable CO)
  • Stretchy bind-off in rib (e.g., Jeny’s) recommended

Materials & Specifications

  • Yarn weight: DK (I used a superwash merino but use whatever DK you have that will allow you to get gauge)
  • Yardage: size-by-size yardage table included in pattern
  • Suggested needles: 4.5 mm (US 7) main body, 3.5 mm (US 4) ribbing, 4.0 mm (US 6) neckband, circulars and DPNs or magic loop (or sizes to meet gauge)
  • Notions: 8 stitch markers (incl. BOR + side seams), stitch holders/waste yarn, tapestry needle, scissors
  • Optional: second colour for stripes ( I used 2 high contrast colors- black and off white)

Gauge

19 sts × 30 rnds = 10 cm (4”) in stockinette, knit in the round, after washing/blocking

This is a relaxed DK gauge for airy drape. Adjust needle size to meet gauge and fabric preference.

Finished Size

Approximate finished bust at underarm (circumference):

XS 33.75”, S 38.75”, M 42”, L 44.75”, XL 49.75”, 2X 52.25”, 3X 56.5”, 4X 61.5” Intended ease: choose 4–8” (10–20 cm) positive ease or to taste. (See schematic inside for full measurements.)

Skill Level

Confident Beginner (comfortable knitting in the round, increasing/decreasing, picking up stitches). This pattern was tested by beginners! And also tech edited. In fact, during the ClaudiaKAL 2 years ago it was knit over 32 times and this was just during the KAL! I have a tutorial on YouTube, watch it here.

Usage

Everyday sweater for layering over tees or dresses. The relaxed fabric feels light but cozy; stripes add a classic, sporty vibe.

Customization

  • Neckband: folded (tacked) or regular
  • Body/sleeve length: knit more/less before rib
  • Stripes: work solid or follow the included stripe sequence
  • Fabric feel: for denser sweatshirt hand, go down a needle size or play with a heavy weight yarn and needle size and re-check gauge

Care

Follow the care instructions for your yarn. Block gently to measurements.
