Clifftop Puffin Hat
A stranded colorwork hat featuring a bold puffin motif, knitted in the round from a ribbed brim to a fitted crown.

Pattern Details
Skill level: Confident beginner
Construction: Knitted in the round
Size: Adult one size, 20 inches / 51 cm circumference, 8.5 inches / 21.5 cm height with brim folded (fits head circumference 21-22 inches / 53-56 cm)
Needles: 4.5mm and 5mm circular needles, 16 inch / 40 cm cable, plus 5mm DPNs for crown shaping
Yarn: Approximately 170 yards / 155 m Aran weight wool
Sample yarn: DROPS Alaska; any Aran weight yarn with good stitch definition works beautifully
Techniques: Stranded colorwork, ribbing, crown decreases

Notes
The smaller needle is used for the ribbed brim; the larger needle for the body and colorwork section. The brim is worn folded.

For yarn substitutions, an Aran weight wool or wool-blend with good stitch definition will give the best results for the colorwork section.
