Coddiwomple has been in the works for some time now. First as a little tickle in the back of my mind every time I had my hook in hand. Slowly it grew from a vague idea of taking all of my other designs and creating match points where they could all be swapped and blended with each other to a fully interchangeable and completely customizable design of its own. Coddiwomple is not just a design, it is a journey with no set destination.

Each person… each coddiwompler begins their journey with choosing how they would like their piece to start from one or more of six blocks and one mandala. From that beginning they must then choose their path of shape changes through their piece. Will it start with a single block, change to circle, change to octagon, then back to circle, and finally finishing as a square? Will it start with a mandala, change to a star, finish as a circle? Will it grow to be an enormous 8 ft beast, or finish as a modest 50 inch throw? There are options for combining multiple blocks, adding block edging, and different borders for an almost infinite number of possibilities for each person’s finished piece.

This pattern is broken down into sections based on size and then further broken down in those sections based on shape at the finish of that section. Due to the way this pattern was designed there is no accurate way of measuring how much yarn each person will need and use for their chosen path, but approximates are given based on weight of pieces upon completion. Attempts were made to use even amounts of all colors through each section of the design, but occasionally design elements did not make that possible.

Coddiwomple FAQ

What is it?
Coddiwomple is a single crochet pattern inspired by the “pick your adventure” genre of books that were popular when I was a kid.

Why is it unique?
Interchangeable pieces/blocks/centers of crochet patterns is not a new concept, but an entire design made to be completely interchangeable within itself has never been done. Each buyer has the ability to choose how their blanket looks and what shapes it changes to and from throughout the entire process.

What is included in the pattern?

• 6 foundation blocks and 1 foundation mandala (centers of block 1 and mandala are interchangeable)
• 2 square extensions (2 different ways to make those foundation blocks bigger squares)
• 2 square to circle extensions (2 different ways to make a foundation block change to a circle)
• continued square extension (making a single square extension into a bigger square)
• continued circle extension (making a foundation mandala of square to circle extension a larger circle)
• circle to square (making a foundation mandala or square to circle extension a square)
• circle to star (making a foundation mandala or square to circle into a star)
• circle to octagon (making a foundation mandala or square to circle into an octagon)
• square to octagon (making a square extension into an octagon) octagons can be finished as both circle and square by following in pattern instruction
• large circle to finished square
• large square to finished square
• large circle to finished circle
• block edging for continued square both rectangle and square options
• joining blocks and extensions to use in place of other square size options
• 7 borders

When and how will it be released?
Coddiwomple will be released on or before April 26, 2021 in 4 ways.

1. Coddiwomple pdf: full pattern download will be available for purchase on my website and in my ravelry and etsy shops.
2. Coddiwomple printed book: full pattern in a spiral bound book will be available on my website and in my etsy shop.
3. Coddiwomple Limited Square: lower price point option with limited square shape choices. Available as pdf only on my website and in my etsy shop.
4. Coddiwomple Limited Circle: lower price point option with limited circle shape choices. Available as pdf only on my website and in my etsy shop.

Why is it so expensive?
Coddiwomple has 2.14 x 10^28 possible combinations. You can do nothing but this single pattern for the rest of your life and never do the same project twice unless you choose to. I’d say it’s a fair price. The limited shape options are also available for those with limited income.

Will there be videos or photo tutorials?
No. I design and sell written patterns only. I am always available to help buyers if they are stuck at any point with any and all of my designs. I also have 2 groups on Facebook filled with people that have completed my designs that can offer their input as well.
