Explore how different colors play with different stitches and each other! The Color Play Shawl uses two skeins in a combination of solid rows, stripes, and lace to showcase how the colors play out. It’s a super fun journey through a fabulous world of yarn and color!

The pattern includes instructions for making the shawl as well as info on reading a skein, predicting how colors will play out, and exploring how stitches match with different color styles!

This is a Mystery Crochet-a-long (MCAL). The first pdf only includes the notes and general info - clues will drop weekly starting Sept 19. Updates and new clues will be sent out via email and Ravmail.

Sample
Sample used Fearless Feet Fiber Co Super Sheepy Sock, 438yds/100g in Rachy (color A) and 438yds/100g in Rachy Speckles (color B)
Thanks to Fearless Feet Fiber Co for providing the yarn for the pattern sample!

Yarn, Yardage, and Colors
The pattern calls for two skeins of fingering, 438yds/400m/100g in each of two coordinating colors, but can easily be adjusted. Each section has info for adding/removing rows and the pattern works well in any yarn weight from lace to worsted.

The pattern is specifically designed to work with busy colorful yarns! Pair a variegated with a solid or speckle to tone it down, or combine two variegateds for a shawl that explodes with color. A low contrast pair will emphasize the color play, while a high contrast set will highlight the striping and stitch combinations.

Skills required
This is a beginner friendly pattern, with the exception of carrying colors up the side.
ch, dc, sc, counting rows, counting stitches, working flat, changing colors, skipping stitches, weaving in ends as you go (optional)

Construction
The shawl is worked in two pieces and then crocheted together. Each of the two pieces is worked exactly the same stitch-wise, but the colors are switched. You’ll work the main section twice - the first time using color A as the main color and color B as the contrast, and the second time using color B as the mc and color A as the cc. The two pieces are then crocheted together and an optional border is added.
