This pattern is inspired by playing with different combinations on the color wheel. Pairing burgundy and brick red, close neighbors on the wheel, gives unexpected depth. The mirrored triangles create countless edges and meeting points where the colors alternately come to the foreground or go to the background.

More challenging than anything is choosing from all the possible color combinations, but the stranded knitting pattern itself is easy to follow and rhythmic. The pattern contains both written and charted instructions, including visually accessible charts.

The pictured cowl was knit on a US size 4/3.5mm, 16” circular needle, with a US size 3/3.25mm used on the ribbing to give a sturdier edge. The resulting gauge over the colorwork chart is 26 sts & 29 rnds = 4”/10cm blocked using larger needle.

Galway and Cascade 100% wool highlight stitch definition for clear and beautiful colorwork results. One skein of each of the following is plenty to make one Coming and Going Cowl. Specific amounts are as follows:

Cascade 220 SPORT (100% Peruvian Highland Wool, 150m/164yds, 50g/1.76oz):
(MC) Approximately 108yards

Plymouth GALWAY SPORT (100% Highland Wool, 138m/151yds, 50g/1.76oz):
(CC1) #772 Cabernet Heather Approximately 79yards
(CC2) #742 Fired Brick Heather Approximately 45yards

The pattern is written for one size (Circumference: 24”/61cm,
Height: 7.75”/19.5cm), but addition of repeats would easily adjust the size if desired.
