Sonia Purse
This pattern is inspired by Sonia Delaunay, an artist of the early
20th century who was a trailblazer in bringing abstract art into
textile and fashion. Construction for the purse is bottom-up,
seamless, and in the round. The stitches are then separated for two flaps. Flaps are knit flat and then sewn around rectangular wooden handles.
The snug gauge clearly defines the graphic, hexagonal texture pattern and also assures that the fabric will be sturdy enough to support the valuables in your purse!
Overall yardage for one Sonia Purse is approximately 250 yards of Circulo DUNA (100% mercerized Brazilian virgin cotton, 170m/186yds, 100g/3.5oz), divided as follows:
Main color: 158 yards
Contrast Color: 89 yards
Other DK cotton yarns would be substitution possibilities.
Wooden handles are available from various craft shops and online vendors. Specific dimensions of those used here are 7.87”/20cm x 3.58”/9.1cm x 0.35”/0.9cm.
