These lined mittens are perfect to keep your hands warm on a cold winter night. While the design is simple, the twisted rib is easy, but adds something special to these mittens. While they are part of the costal family, I’m not sure I’ll be seeing many mittens worn with the tank top.

The outer mittens are worked up from the cuff in the round to the fingers. Then the thumb of the outer mitten is made by picking up stitches along a gusset created with the body. Then the inner mitten is made by picking up stitches at the cuff of the outer mitten. These mittens are not written with a technique in mind, so it can be done with DPNs or magic loop or 9 inch circulars.

DIFFICULTY: intermediate

SIZING
Size 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) correspond with finished outer mitten circumference of 16.3 (17.8, 18.6, 20, 21.5, 23, 24.5, 26) cm/6.4 (7, 7.3, 7.9, 8.5, 9.1, 9.6, 10.2) inches and a finished inner mitten circumference of 15.6 (16.9, 17.5, 18.8, 20, 21.3, 22.5, 23.8) cm/6.1 (6.7, 6.9, 7.4, 7.9, 8.4, 8.9, 9.4) inches.

To choose a size, measure the circumference of the widest part of your hand (at the palm above the thumb). If you want to make an inner lining, choose a size that has a finished inner mitten circumference 0.5 cm/0.2 inches bigger than your hand circumference. If you want to make an unlined glove, choose an outer mitten circumference 0.5 cm/0.2 inches bigger than your hand circumference and skip the inner mitten steps. Rest of the measurements (hand and thumb length, thumb base circumference) are adjustable.

SKILLS USED: long tail cast on, knitted cast on, grafting
