Cows in the Pasture Sweater
I charted this pattern a year ago as a gift for my partner who loves cows. She really liked a sweater that was compleately unavailabe, no longer being sold. It only had a design on the front, the back and sleaves where just blue, so I made her her own, adding more cows and details. I have had numerous requests to create a pattern, and I hope you enjoy it! I have polished a few bits, and the lake extension over the right arm is entirely optional.
This pattern is worked flat in four panels then sewn together. The colorwork is a mix of intarsia and stranded where you keep the main color carried behind the work but leave the yarn for each element to finish the row. For instance for the cows or clouds, they will be intarsia, but you will still carry the grass behind as you work the cows so you can complete the row on the other side. The lake is fully intarsia, and the hills and mountains are fully stranded.
You will need 5-6 colors (depending on if you will be using the same color for the cow spots and clouds) of worsted weight yarn. You will need Grass, Sky/Lake, Mountains, Clouds, Cows, Cow Spots (could be cloud color).
•50g for cows
•50g for cow spots/clouds
•400g of the sky/lake
•350g grass
•150g mountains
•50g for clouds if a different color then cow spots.
I used Berroco Vintage in the colorways Spruce, Forget Me Not, Douglas Fur, Mochi, and Black, but you can use any yarn and colors you like!
