Craft Room Shawl
Pattern Inspiration:
This pattern was created for and inspired by my amazing LYS, Moon and Yarn Craft Room. The Craft Room is a truly inspiring space, full of amazing yarns (of course) and more importantly, filled with joy and community. It is a place that absolutely feels like home. Huge thanks to Bryanne for the yarn support for this design, and for creating such a beautiful community for us here in Pittsburgh.
Basic Information:
Pattern is written in US crochet terms.
Yarn: Fingering weight (weight 1) or DK weight (weight 3). Approximately fingering - 400 yards main color, 200 yards contrast color, DK - 270 yards main color, 150 yards contrast color. For the fingering weight version, I used Kelbourne Woolens Camper for my main color and Spincycle Dyed in the Wool for my contrast. For the DK, I used Kelbourne Woolens Scout for my main color and Spincycle Dream State for my contrast.
Hook: 4 mm (fingering) or 5mm (DK), or size needed to meet gauge.
Finished size: Fingering - 84” long by 15.5” deep. DK - 82” long by 15” deep.
Gauge: Before blocking, fingering weight - 12 Xdc by 10 rows = 4” by 4”, DK weight - 9 Xdc by 8 rows = 4” by 4”. After blocking, fingering weight - 12 Xdc by 8 rows = 4” by 4”, DK weight - 9 Xdc by 7 rows = 4” by 4”.
Yardage for this pattern is fairly tight. Be mindful of your gauge! Notes are included for each yarn weight to help determine if you’re on the right track.
Fingering weight pattern note: Though my main color yarn (Kelbourne Woolens Camper) is labeled as fingering weight, and my contrast (Spincycle Dyed in the Wool) is labeled as sport, both yarns are labeled at 200 yards per 50g skein, so they work well together here. Make sure both of your yarns have similar compositions and yardage per gram.
DK weight pattern note: Though my main color yarn (Kelbourne Woolens Scout) is labeled as DK weight, and my contrast (Spincycle Dream State) is labeled as worsted, both yarns have a similar yardage per gram, so they work well together here. Make sure both of your yarns have similar compositions and yardage per gram. Extra note - Spincycle has recently revised their Dream State to be more of a “true worsted” weight. I used the original lighter version for this shawl design.
