This design is dedicated to all my friends in far away places. I miss you!

My favorite part of the fall is how skeins and skeins of migrating birds fill the sky over Canada and Latvia both. They fill my heart with longing to join them. Last year we had a sock exchange and many pairs of socks traveled overseas like a migrating birds. There is a little Latvian folk song, which inspired this design:

Dzērves kāsī, dzērves kāsī,
Dzērves kāsī, kamolā.
Jūk un tinas, mūk un pinas,
Pazūd zilā tālumā.

Cranes in skeins, cranes in skeins,
Cranes in skeins, in clews
Weave and tangle, scuttle and mingle,
Vanish in blue beyond.

Right from the very beginning these socks are knitted by alternating knitting with two yarns. As a base architecture, I used my 7 X‘s pattern which was designed to provide extra comfort without disrupting stitch patterns. As a simple and neat way to make them even prettier, I included a Gull Stitch panel that blends into a snug Gull Stitch cuff. It also helps with counting rounds.
