A perfect shawl to let your most wild and crazy yarn do its thing! No yarn too colorful, no gauge off limits, no yardage requirements, and no need for blocking pins – has “no” ever been so freeing? Terrific mindless knitting for experienced knitters, and a great introduction to shawls for novices, this pattern will help you create a totally unique shawl that is easy to wear and even easy to gift (since it blocks by simply laying flat to dry). That is, if you’re willing to part with it!

Crazybird is a highly adaptable, easily knit, stash-busting shawl that still gives incredible results!

This pattern is as much a recipe as a pattern - full instructions for making the shawl are included, but there are no requirements for yarn weight or gauge requirements. Choose any yarn from your stash, any needles that give you a fabric you like, and knit away!

Designed especially for highly variegated yarns, the simple drop-stitch pattern in this shawl can stand up to even the craziest color combos and show them to their best advantage. Or knit this pattern using a finer-weight yarn in a tonal or solid color and create an elegant evening shawl.

Crazybird is a terrific pattern for new-ish knitters who are ready to knit their first shawl; the only skills required are knit, purl, yo, M1R, M1L (these last three are explained in the stitch glossary), and the backwards-loop cast-on. It is also a wonderful pattern for more experienced knitters who’d like a bit of straightforward tv knitting, and/or a quick gift!
