PDF pattern, now updated with photos for additional help, to make a basket-style infant sling. Perfect for use with handheld, hanging scales to measure birth weight or to perform weight checks at home. Also beautiful as a newborn photography prop.

I created this pattern after Farm midwife Stacie Hunt sent me a picture of a baby in a crocheted scale sling and asked if I could make something like it. A bit of thinking, a lot of frogging, and a few test slings later, and I think I came up with something that we’re both happy with.

If made to specified gauge, approximate unstretched dimensions: 8” deep x 15” long. Shown with a 7 lb baby.

Please use your finished item responsibly. Not for sleeping. Do not leave infant in sling unattended. Always use over a stable, padded surface.

I consider this pattern to be advanced beginner level. Helpful skills to have are working on both sides of a foundation chain, working in continuous rounds, and finishing off with a needle join. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you need help!
