“Just Like Grandma Made” is a traditional, straight-edged granny triangle shawl pattern. A good, all-purpose, make-it-in-your sleep, Netflix binge watching project. Also great for traveling or combating doctor’s office waiting room boredom because, once you get it started, you don’t have to look at the pattern again until you’re done!

Perfect for beginners looking for nearly-instant gratification; the only special stitch needed is a magic loop. You don’t even have to match gauge! It’s wonderful for showing off those color blocking, self-striping, and self-patterning yarns that make your finished piece look more complicated than it really was to make. Advanced crafters will appreciate the simplicity of the pattern, which gives a not-too-plain, not-too-busy background for experimenting with manual color work.

Those familiar with traditional granny patterns will appreciate our use of slightly different terminology in order to keep the written pattern uncluttered. Optional simple edging instructions are also included which allows the last row to keep the same spacing between groups as the rest of the shawl.

  • Great beginner pattern

  • Easy to memorize

  • Stitch pattern doesn’t compete with color work

  • Top down construction: the number of rows you complete determines the finished size

  • Optional simple edging instructions included

  • Looks great with almost any hook/yarn combo: Use a larger than usual hook for a lacy, delicate look, or a smaller than usual hook for a firmer fabric

  • Use solids, marbles, or coloring blocking for a more traditional look and variegated, handpainted, and other multicolored options (even a stash-busting magic ball!) for a modern take.

  • Extremely versatile. Make it any size and wear it any way you like!
