This hat came about when my son asked if I could knit him a Fair Isle hat with two colors and a solid crown. He lives only a few hours away, but across the border in Canada and as a result we went a very long time without being together. There have been many challenging separations due to the pandemic and this pattern is dedicated to everyone who like our family had loved ones in adjoining countries who were close and yet so far.

I used the lovely Tukuwool Fingering yarn that comes in an array of beautiful colors. Two skeins of yarn is enough to make two hats in contrasting colors. You can make one for yourself and one for someone you love.

With just two colors and short carries, this is a great pattern for a beginning colorwork knitter, or if you are looking for a fun, uncomplicated project to take with you on your next cross border adventure.
