About the Pattern

Crystals of Time is a versatile pattern that is created using the overlay mosaic crochet technique and worked in rows.
The pattern is ideal for crocheters at an advanced beginner to intermediate level who are fully comfortable with basic crochet stitches such as chains, US single crochet (UK double crochet), and US double crochet (UK treble crochet). Experience with mosaic crochet is an added bonus!

The pattern is completely customisable so you can create whatever size, pattern layout, and object you choose. Instructions on how to make these modifications are included in the written pattern. If you are new to mosaic crochet or are a bit daunted by this idea, I have included some example projects for a lapghan/baby blanket and cushion to get you started.

What is Included

  • Charts (with Xs and counts marked)
  • Full row-by-row written instructions
  • Mosaic crochet technique compendium: Full description of the mosaic crochet technique and links to tutorials and technique videos that helped me to learn when I first started out.
  • Stitch Count Calculator link, used to calculate your starting stitch counts if you customise the pattern layout and/or size.

The pattern is available in English only and includes two versions of the written instructions, one using US crochet terms and the other using UK crochet terms.

Please note: The stitch count calculator for this pattern is not included in the downloads but is instead linked in the written pattern. Materials

You can use any yarn and corresponding hook for this pattern and you will need at least 2 contrasting colours.
Remember that mosaic crochet benefits from a tight tension so if you are a loose crocheter it might be best to drop down half a hook size for this project.

If using Cotton Kings Sultan Deluxe and Cotton Kings 8/4 cotton with a 3mm hook like the blanket shown in this listing, you will need:

  • 2 cakes of Sultan Deluxe (I have used the colour Imperial Purple)
  • 1 cone of Cotton Kings 8/4 (I have used black)

This will create a small lapghan/baby blanket measuring approximately 75cm x 105cm (41” x 30”) with a small border.
