Cupples' Open Diamond
This stitch pattern is from Mrs. George (Anne Jane) Cupples’ 1871 stocking knitter’s pamphlet. I added 2 more rows between motifs to better separate them vertically. There are 14 rows to the pattern and a multiple of 13 stitches. My swatch has 2 repeats (26 stitches) + 4 edge stitches that are not included in the pattern.
The double yarn overs make larger eyelets. If you prefer smaller eyelets, yarn over once on right-side rows but work the yarn over as 2 stitches on wrong side rows to avoid a stitch count problem.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, double yarn over, (p1, k1) in the double yarn overs, k2tog and bind off.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
